Creative Writing Exam Essentials + Vocabulary
- The course will aim to revisit and revise the various types of English multiple-choice and written style questions that appear in the exam, then hone the skills required to answer them.
- Decoding the various sorts of questions, the 11+ comprehension papers tend to ask, and how to go about deducing the answer.
- Our English Booster will be challenging. Sophisticated vocabulary and ideas will be used and discussed. Though challenging, it is to give our children the best chance to succeed.
- Retrieval, inference, word definition and language techniques will be discussed and practised.
- Comprehension questioning styles vary – acclimatise children through different styles of question papers.
- 200 Vocabulary Questions.
The course also includes creative writing.
We are looking forward to this English Extended Programme and anticipate that children will get the best from our teaching.

DAY 1: English + Creative Writing + Vocabulary
English | RETRIEVAL:
1. Strategies to extract information that exists within the text. 2. Encourage using the text to retrieve and physically find the answer rather than from memory. 3. Skim read and get the gist of each paragraph thereby cutting down time to locate the source of the answer. Work on a passage to cover questions relating to: Retrieval, inference, word definition and language techniques |
Creative Writing | Knowing on what you are being measured – The Exam Checklist
Focus on figurative Language Handwriting & Presentation of work Practise writing in timed conditions.

1. Read texts to identify the jumping off points that lead to inference. 2. Pulling out information from the text rather than taking a wild guess. 3. Strategies for figuring out new words through context Work on a passage to cover questions relating to: Retrieval, inference, word definition and language techniques |
